In APA style, an in-text citation is the in-sentence or parenthetical reference to the author and the publication date of a source. In-text citations appear within the sentences of a text and point the reader to the full source information listed in the References section.

A reference citation is the reference entry at the end of the work. A reference entry lists all the information about the source that is used in the text.
