Nursing professionals are entrusted with caring for patients during their most vulnerable times. Nursing practice is guided by a code of ethics as the need to provide ethical, competent care cannot be understated. This is Part one of a three-part series that reviews the ANA Guide to the Code of Ethics for Nurses Part 1. The first part of this series reviews the ethical issues for nurses and patients. Additionally, you will learn the scope of nursing ethics, ethics defined, and how ethics is incorporated into nursing practice. This first presentation reviews provisions 1-3 of the ANA Code of Ethics. You will be asked to answer 10 questions and three short answer responses. Target Audience
This activity is intended for all nurses that may need to review the ANA Guide to the Code of Ethics for Nurses (2015) published.
Statement of Need
Nurses need to remain contemporary and aware of ethical dilemmas that they may face in the workplace during patient care activities, in collaborating with colleagues, in research situations and in seeking higher education.
Educational Outcome
Upon completion of this activity learners should be able to:

  1. Nurses will be able to complete the post-test with a score of 80% or higher.

  2. Complete the three short answer reflections of the contents of Part 1 Patients and Nurses.
