Nursing professionals provide care to patients of all ages in a variety of settings. Nursing professionals are educated to provide knowledge and assist patients in decision making. As adolescents mature nursing professionals should be prepared to inform this population on sexual health. With the age of sexual debut decreasing and the rates of STIs increasing, there is a need to better equip adolescents with knowledge and skills to make better informed decisions related to their sexual health. Nurses can also facilitate conversations with the adolescent and their parents, to assist decision making. Join Dr. Jennifer Perkins as she discusses how adolescent sexual health is just as normal as adult sexual health, and the importance of providing medically accurate information in a comprehensive sexual health education program. This session will initiate conversations regarding how we educate and inform adolescents regarding sexual health, intimacy, and healthy decisions making practices. Additionally, you will learn how to define adolescent sexual health, basic terms and concepts related to adolescent-focused sexual health education and three sex-positive approaches to the supportive delivery of sexual health education. In addition, you will earn 1 hour nursing continuing professional development for viewing the webinar content on adolescent sexual health.
