To create your running head and number your papers in Microsoft Word:
*(all of the below is done in the header area of the paper)
1) Start on the Cover Page: Click on Insert, then Page #, then Top of Page, and Plain Number 3
2) After the number shows up in the header, Type the abbreviated title of the paper in ALL CAPS. Then hit the tab button twice to move the Page # to the left.
3) In the Header area of the Cover Page: go to the Design tab, and check the box for Different First Page.
4)Now insert the words “Running head: PAPER TITLE”
(this will add these words to the first page’s header, but will leave all subsequent pages’ headers with just the abbreviated title and the page number)
5) The last step is to make sure the font style and size is correct, according to APA format. (12 pt. font; Arial or Times New Roman)
Please note: Running heads are omitted in Walden's doctoral capstones and KAMs, and Walden course papers no longer require a running head. A page number at the top right of each page will now suffice.
