Adding images and graphics to your Microsoft Word documents can often lead to large file sizes.  A larger file size can:

  1. Lead to longer upload times to the Canvas assignment submission area.
  2. Cause your Turnitin report to take longer to return a report.
  3. Make it difficult for you or your instructor to download comments or edited documents.

This can be especially difficult if you are submitting documents and files that are already large, like with dissertation and thesis papers.

To help reduce file size, you can compress the size of your images and graphics in Microsoft Word.  Follow the link below.  The guide from Microsoft will help you, based on the type of computer (Windows or Macintosh) that you use.
