Yes, the graduation application is necessary to confer your degree and mail your diploma or certificate. You should submit the graduation application within your final academic term. For doctoral students, you will complete the graduation application once you receive CAO approval, but prior to ProQuest publication. If you missed these timelines, you should still complete the graduation application.

For students in undergraduate or master’s degree programs, your graduation date will be the last day of the term in which you completed your last course.  For doctoral students, your graduation date will be the last day of the term in which you receive Chief Academic Officer (CAO) approval.

  • Your Graduation Application will be reviewed within 7-10 business days upon receipt.
  • For more information about the dates of each term, please visit the Academic Calendar website.
  • Please note: The graduation date is not the same as the date your conferral will be processed or your commencement ceremony date (if eligible).

Please follow the steps below to locate the Graduation Application and/or Embedded Certificate Graduation Application.

  1. Log into your myWalden portal.
  2. On the left and under the “Support” section, select “Student Request Forms.”
  3. Locate or Type to Search for the “Graduation Application.”
  4. Students obtaining an Embedded Certificate should complete the Embedded Certificate Graduation Application, found by using Type to Search.
  5. You can now fill out and submit the Graduation Application and/or Embedded Certificate Graduation Application.

For more information and examples of embedded degrees, access the Walden University Student Handbook.
